The Taiwan High Speed Rail is the first Shinkansen in Taiwan, which opened in 2007 between Taipei and Kaohsiung (345km). The tracks and equipment are owned by the European Union, but the vehicle was developed based on the 700 Series Shinkansen, which is active on the Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen.
