The M114 howitzer is an American 155mm towed howitzer from the post-war and modern times. The initial velocity of the demolition shell from this gun is up to 563 m / s, with a maximum range of about 14,600 meters.
The M114 howitzer was developed and produced at Rock Island Arsenal from 1941 to 1953. In total, more than 10,000 copies of this weapon were created. Despite initial work based on the French Schneider 155mm cannon, the M114 howitzer was developed from scratch. Despite the long research and development process, the new howitzer turned out to be a successful weapon. It had a good firing range, good rate of fire and good overall reliability. The quality of this weapon is proved by the fact that it was used both during World War II and during the Korean (1950-1953) or Vietnam (1964 / 1965-1975) wars and it was replaced in the US Army only by the M198 howitzer. The M114 howitzer was also exported to many countries and is still in service with the armies of countries such as Brazil, South Korea and Pakistan.
